What Are EMDG’s And How Can They Grow My Business?

The Export Market Development Grant (EMDG) scheme is a longstanding financial assistance program started by the Australian Government roughly forty years ago. It has gone through many changes since then but its purpose still remains the same; to help Australian businesses achieve sustainable international sales.

The scheme helps small to medium aspiring and growing export-ready businesses increase their international marketing and promotional expenditure, by reimbursing up to 50% of eligible promotional costs. It is a great way to help expand your business overseas, with the vast majority of recipients having reported that the grant was invaluable in helping them access new markets and develop better international business and cultural understanding.

With the Government announcing in April that the total value of the grant will increase by $60 million over the next 3 years, there has never been a better time to apply. So what can be claimed and how do you apply?

Any international* promotional expenses that are above $5,000 are eligible for reimbursement, with limits set based on the type of expense. This includes the cost of things like overseas representatives, trade fairs and seminars, and promotional materials and advertising.

Applying for a grant can be a difficult process requiring lots of documentation, but with the help of our government grant experts, we can make the process simple and easy for our clients. Applications have already opened for expenses incurred over the 2018/19 financial year and must be submitted before the end of the year..

The application process can take some time so make sure you get in contact with us today if you think your business might be eligible.

*excludes New Zealand, North Korea and Iran
